I feel harassed by the employees at the 28th street and Kalamazoo Meijer whenever I choose self checkout. I feel they’re constantly watching me, interrupting me, and accusing me of shoplifting when I go through self checkout, and I feel a large part of it is because I’m a person of color. I have spoken to the general manger about this on several occasions, but he always backs up his employees, stating that they’re just doing their job to make sure no one leaves with no unpaid merchandise, but I never notice the employees treating their white customers with the constant vigilance they treat customers of color.
