In August 2016 I ordered a roll top desk and a chair to be delivered to my house in Montana. I arranged and paid for an in-house delivery, and the company knew there would be a set of stairs to deal with. The moving company hired by MO attempted to deliver the items in late October 2016 and could not because, as they said, they needed more than two guys to carry the items up the stairs. The guys from the moving company left with the understanding they would return with more help. When we got no further response from Modern Office or the moving company, we decided to cancel the order. We were told by Laurie at MO that the cost to send the items back to MN would be $167.17. We argued, correctly, that the issue was not our fault, and that the moving company was refusing, for whatever reason, to deliver the items. Then we found out we were charged $438.04 for the return of the items, instead of the $167. This was done without our knowledge or authorization. As my husband and I both told Laurie at MO, the issues with the moving company lie with Modern Office, not with us. I purchased items that the moving company hired by MO refused to deliver, and I withheld no information about my house or where the items would go. All I heard from MO was, ‘No problem’ I’ve had few problems in my life this major. From Modern Office’s side, they are saying that the moving company told them they can’t get the fully assembled desk up the stairs. That isn’t what the delivery guys said when they were at the house, looking at the stairs, and saying this is no problem. The delivery guys reiterated that the items were too heavy for two workers. Period. I will not even go into my dealings with the owner of the delivery company, who apparently had the contact with MO. He was rude, short and unaccommodating, even before the issue became an issue, and this is who MO chooses to do business with. I, of course, couldn’t care less who MO does business with. I want my money. The problem could have been solved in October 2016 by simply sending two more guys, for a total of 4 people to deliver a desk and a chair. What we want now is a refund of the $438.04 amount we were unfairly charged for the return of items Modern Office couldn’t deliver. When we asked to speak to the owner, (Reese someone, I think) we were denied. Flat out.Between October 2016 and April 28 2017 we have been in contact with Modern Office on numerous occasions with no satisfactory settlement, or even an attempt on their part to recify this. The incredible lack of customer service and lack of mature, intellegent reasoning over this issue is astounding, which is why I’ve had to resort to reporting them. Nothing else has worked.
