Complaint: I was moving from Charleston, SC to North Augusta, SC and rented a Uhaul through the online Uhaul Reservation site. Everything proceded fine and as instructed I waited around at home the night before waiting for a phone call from Uhual saying where I can get my truck. No phone call ever came. The next morning I had friends arrive to help me, and I don’t have a truck and I have to be out of my apartment the next day. I go to the address that is on the email in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and it does not exist! I go back home and call Uhaul to find out that a truck had never been reserved for me. They tell me to go to a Uhaul in North Charleston about 30 minutes from me. When I arrive, the manager has no idea what I’m talking about and refuses to give me one of the trucks he had waiting for another customer. I end up having to wait with all the other people who had not made reservations and hope for a truck. By mid afternoon, I did get a truck, but they refused to discount any for their failure to reserve one for me and wasting half of my moving day. It had no A/C, vibrated violently the whole trip, and I had to stop 4 times to prevent it from overheating. After the experience I finally complained enough that a district manager gave me two $10 cerfiticats that I can use again at Uhaul. Better than nothing, but they should have refunded my full amount. I found out that this is the way that Uhaul does business with it’s online reservations. When you reserve a truck online, often it will not be there for you. There has been so many complaints they changed their refund policy to refuse refunds of any kind. The best way to rent from Uhaul is through a reputable local dealer.
